Awareness of Self – your own body ‘alert’ system
Optimum health is the state that each of us aspire too. Unfortunately there are a number of hurdles and enticements that make this a hard road to tred for a significant number of the peoples who occupy the planet. The reasons and causes are of an unlimited number.
However, there is hope, even for those with good health who still experience minimal periods of discomfort. You can look into your eating patterns and often bring about significant improvement.
That first point to examine is your past, right back there in your childhood. Do you recall some of the foods that caused family arguments and unpleasantness. More importantly…are they still with you today.
I remember be referred to as a difficult child, causing much concern at meal times. Long silences followed each admonishment because I would not eat meat fats at all. I can remember my father’s lasting final comment, though it didn’t reflect the issue, “you don’t eat enough to feed a sparrow”.
This particular dislike has remained with me, along with the fact meat had to be thinly sliced and minimal. Later I removed meat completely from my diet.
There are lots of clues hidden in early childhood likes and dislikes. So take a few minutes to cast your mind back and see if there are some that have persisted to this day, record and then move on to the next stage of examination.
At this juncture I’d like you to reflect and record your own journey of health.
Ask yourself these questions:
1. Were you a fussy eater, [remember most children are, according to parents]? Is there a remaining number of foods that you absolutely avoid, or you eat today knowing that you will have to tolerate an adverse outcome of discomfort despite your fondness for them?
Have you developed or inherited a health problem that is debilitating your health and/or significantly affecting your lifestyle?
Is it possible that these two aspects are in some way diet connected?
As stated in my first article on the subject of nutrition, I sincerely believe that it is the first aspect of your malady that should be closely scrutinised and adjusted. There are no plans or purchases necessary to answer the above.
Put simply, dietary whole health involves a moderate approach to the foods that you eat. In addition, you will need to be honest with yourself and, depending upon the severity of your problem, acknowledge that a complete overhaul of your dietary lifestyle may be one of the necessary requirements.
At this point I am going to reiterate that I am looking at what you, as the individual, with a health problem, or minor discomfort can do to permanently assist in working towards your own optimum whole health.
This is not an alternative to seeking medical advice , support or ongoing treatment.
It is the one aspect that you have total control over and can, if adopted as a life-changing commitment, add positive, permanent, and restorative outcomes in terms of health improvement. It is a positive contribution towards your return to whole health.
However, as iterated at the beginning, I do believe that each of us are individual and that one nutritional approach is not suited to all.
Nutritional balance needs to be looked at and talked over from the point of your nutritional likes, dislikes; what ails you; and what agrees and disagrees with you. All these issues are considered when reviewing the requirements of establishing a balanced dietary intake to suit you, the individual.
The aim is to achieve a lifestyle that contributes to optimum health and restoration.
